Hello, and welcome to MétEX, the Paris Métro Experience.
I am Kit Whittaker, web developer, and I originally created this virtual tour of the Paris Métro for my 2004-2005 final-year University project. It was originally built in Flash, and served to show how virtual tours could be built using immersive web technologies.
I chose the Paris Métro as the subject because I adore Paris, having spent many of my early years there, and I'm also a massive train nerd! The Paris Métro especially has so much history, interesting architecture, and a unique atmosphere among urban transport systems. My goal with MétEX is to convey the sights, sounds, and overall feeling of the Métro from the convenience of your device.
After the original University version, I rebuilt it in PHP, then Ruby, and this is the latest version. It is now a statically-generated Angular progressive web app. In this Development blog I hope to document future changes and improvements. The actual content of the site has not changed since 2005, and I would like to keep working and improving on it going forwards.
